Competitions
JanSu has many members who enjoy competing. The dance school prides itself on a successful history at these events and regularly attends several venues throughout the year offering support to any who wish to enter. Typical annual events include Presentations, Supadance Team Matches, Camber Sands Dance Festival Weekend, Nationwide Qualifiers and Blackpool Nationwide Finals.
A good way to find out how a competition is run and experience the fun is to attend a Medal Presentation which take place 3 times a year. Here several low key events are run to suit all ages and abilities within the school. Usually these events are just for JanSu members but occasionally another school is invited to provide an extra challenge. Details can be found in the diary dates for the next such event.
If you are interested in attending any competitions Sue or Janice are always happy to advise you. To enable partners to be allocated and teams to be organised etc you are required to commit to a list well in advance of the event, which can be found in the JanSu Folder.
First Competition?!
Attending your first dance competition can sometimes be a daunting prospect so here are just a few helpful tips.
Most competitions are entrance by tickets - these usually need to be brought in advance so ensure you have your tickets and of course take them with you!
Check the times for doors opening. This is usually 30 mins before the competition starts. Ideally you will want to join the queue before this to ensure you have time to get settled prior to the competition starting.
Make sure you take the relevant outfits for all the different dances expected at the competition eg ballroom and latin or disco and rock n roll, pairs and solos etc.
Boys ballroom and latin outfits are relatively easy - white shirt, black trousers, black socks, black shoes and black tie. |
